Emirates Bank Selects "Engaging" GlobalEnglish Service for Training of High- Potential Employees
April 10, 2006 — GlobalEnglish Corporation, the leading online English learning and support service provider for business communication, today announced that Emirates Bank has selected GlobalEnglish® for online English training. Survey results after a successful one-month pilot revealed that 75% of the pilot participants had already used their new English skills on the job.
The English training program is targeted at young, high-potential UAE employees, 100% of whom said that they must improve their English skills within one year in order to better communicate with customers. "Our business is done in English, so our employees must be able to speak Business English, not just general English," said Heyam Khalil, Business Communications Manager for Emirates Bank. "They might speak general English in our cosmopolitan city, but they need fluency in Business English for customer support, meetings, negotiations, etc. And our standards are high. Knowing English words is not enough; their form must be correct. Based on the results of the pilot, we are confident that GlobalEnglish can help us achieve our ambitious goals."
"Emirates Bank is a leader in employee development in the Middle East," said Janine Croft, Managing Director of Xpert Learning, the GlobalEnglish distributor in the Middle East. "Their work with UAE graduate trainees is impressive and will ensure that Emirates Bank will maintain its leadership position in the Middle East financial industry for years to come."
"We chose the GlobalEnglish Corporate Learning Service(TM) because it is really engaging," continued Khalil. "When I do grammar exercises in the classroom, our students are bored to death, but the GlobalEnglish online activities are much more engaging. The speaking, grammar and pronunciation centers are really superb."
Ramakrishna Movva, Head of Strategic HR at Emirates Bank, added, "The great feature of GlobalEnglish is that it passes on the ownership for learning from the trainer to the trainee. This simple shift has huge implications for both parties -- the trainers have to play the role of tutors and coaches while the trainees can track their learning by working at their own pace at a time and place that is most convenient to them."
