Starwood Hotels & Resorts Selects GlobalEnglish to Provide Online English Training Worldwide
February 7, 2006 — GlobalEnglish Corporation, the leading online English learning and support service provider for business communication, today announced that Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) has signed a multiyear agreement. The GlobalEnglish Corporate Learning Service will be made available to more than 120,000 Starwood Hotel associates in 80 countries.
"The single most important asset of Starwood Hotels is our people, and we believe that excellent communication skills are important for their personal and professional success," said Michelle Crosby, Senior Vice President, Human Resources for Starwood Hotels. "The vast diversity of our associates' backgrounds is a tremendous business asset. I am confident that our English language skills training program honors that diversity and at the same time represents both an investment in our people and our commitment to provide the highest level of service for our guests. Enhanced English skills are important both for associates in our international locations and also for our U.S.-based associates who are not native speakers of English."
Starwood Hotels will make the GlobalEnglish® service available to all associates, including executives, managers, frontline associates, and heart-of-the-house staff. Among the goals for the program is increasing employee mobility. According to Starwood, strong English skills will enable employees to earn promotions more quickly and accept assignments in the United States and around the world. In addition, better communication enhances guest service and teamwork.
"English language training is a key strategic program. Strong English skills will facilitate understanding of corporate initiatives, enable high-potential employees to move up, and ensure that we deliver great customer service to our guests, the majority of whom speak English," said Susie Ceruto, Senior Manager, Organizational Capability for Starwood Hotels.
"Starwood Hotels has one of the strongest brands in the world because the organization understands that in a service industry, employee development is critical," said Deepak Desai, President and CEO of GlobalEnglish Corporation. "Starwood Hotels has a genuine commitment to its associates and understands how important English language skills are for their success -- at work, at home and in their communities."
