GlobalEnglish Corporation and Telecom Italia S.p.A. Forge Major Sales and Distribution Relationship

World's fourth largest telecom company licenses the Web-based GlobalEnglish service for company-wide English-language instruction; Telecom Italia will also distribute the GlobalEnglish service in Italy through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Trainet

Daly City, CA, March 27, 2000 — GlobalEnglishTM Corporation, the leading solution for learning English online, today announced that it has entered into a major sales and distribution relationship with Telecom Italia S.p.A., the world's fourth largest telecommunications company and the largest services provider and operator in Italy. Under the terms of the agreement, Telecom Italia will deploy a 10,000-user GlobalEnglish corporate site license, making GlobalEnglish its standard for company-wide English language instruction. In addition, Telecom Italia will also distribute the GlobalEnglish service in Italy through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Trainet.

Corporate Training Transitioning to the Web

Beginning this year, Telecom Italia will transition many of its employee training courses, currently on CD-ROM, to the more scalable and distributed environment of the Internet.

"Web-based training is the wave of the future and GlobalEnglish is at the forefront -- with cutting-edge technologies and proven methodologies for teaching English online," said Mr. Coletti, president of Telecom Italia's Trainet subsidiary. "We recognize the critical importance of English-language proficiency in today's global economy, and are excited to be working with GlobalEnglish to provide Telecom Italia and other companies with this vital training capability."

Because Internet training is available anytime, anywhere, from any computer with an Internet connection, courses can be taken at home or at work, during the day, night or weekends. Online courses eliminate the need for costly classroom training and can increase employee productivity by not interfering with regular work schedules. And, unlike CD-ROM courses, Web-based programs like those from GlobalEnglish offer new and dynamic course content that is updated on a regular basis.

Growing Corporate Demand for English-Language Training

Corporate demand for English language training is growing dramatically as well. According to the research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), corporate training is a $60 billion market in the U.S. alone. While the Internet portion is still relatively small, about $500 million in 1999, it is forecast to grow to $7 billion by 2002 -- an impressive fourteen-fold increase.

"Our corporate training program is designed to give businesses a competitive edge," said Mahesh Ram, vice president of corporate business development for GlobalEnglish. "In addition to providing the most effective English-language instruction service available, we leverage the latest technologies to enable widespread, convenient and affordable access to thousands of users. As a result, companies save time and money and can empower a much broader employee population."

The GlobalEnglish corporate service features multiple courses with an emphasis on engaging learning activities that simulate real-world experiences in a business environment. Users have round-the-clock access to skilled English-language teachers and can even receive assistance with written documents, such as reports or presentations, through the unique "Personal Editor" service. For corporate clients, GlobalEnglish provides a range of special services, from customized user interfaces to powerful, easy-to-use reporting and site administration tools.
