GlobalEnglish Establishes World-Class Advisory Board
Daly City, CA, December 15, 1999 — GlobalEnglishTM Corporation, the leader in teaching English online, today announced the formation of a world-class advisory board comprised of the leading scholars, authors and innovators in Englishlanguage instruction. Announced in conjunction with the launch of www.globalenglish.com, the new English-language learning Web portal, the 12-member advisory board will provide guidance on GlobalEnglish.com content and coursework and offer valuable insight into innovations in distance learning.
Members of the GlobalEnglish Advisory Board include:
-- Dr. David Nunan, president of TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, Inc.), director and chair of applied linguistics at the University of Hong Kong, and author of more than 100 books and articles including The Self-Directed Teacher and Voices from the Language Classroom (Cambridge University Press) and the Atlas, Listen In, and Go For It! series of textbooks published by Heinle & Heinle.
-- Dr. Mary Ann Christison, professor of linguistics at the University of Utah and former president of TESOL. Christison is the author of more than 50 books and scholarly articles on teaching ESL. She is a leading expert on the role that the brain plays in guiding the language learning process.
-- Dr. Joy Reid, former president of TESOL, professor of English at the University of Wyoming, and author of numerous books and textbooks including Understanding Learning Styles in the Second Language Classroom and Teaching ESL Writing (Pearson Education).
-- Dave Sperling, president and founder of Dave's ESL Cafe, one of the world's most popular Web sites for ESL (English as a Second Language) students and teachers. An ESL instructor at California State University, Northridge, he authored Dave Sperling's Internet Guide and Dave Sperling's Internet Activity Workbook (PearsonEducation).

Chaired by Rice, the GlobalEnglish Advisory Board held its first meeting in October of this year and will meet semiannually. The next meeting is scheduled for April 2000.

-- Dr. Peter Master, associate professor of linguistics and language development at San Jose State University in Calif. -- Joseph A. McVeigh, associate director for programs in ESL and TESOL at the Center for Educational Technology at Middlebury College in Vermont. McVeigh's work is focused on exploring new methods of delivering language instruction through technology.
